Migrant reps join May Day parade
40 representatives from migrant work sites in Chiangmai were invited to join forces with the May Day march held in Lamphun, 30 km south of Chiangmai, this morning, according to sources returning from the event.
An 8 point demand which includes non-discrimination for “transnational
laborers” was presented to the deputy governor of Lamphun province by the
Northern Industrial Community.

Maisaeng, a former migrant worker, is currently fighting to have her petition
for full compensation for her injuries sustained in a work accident accepted by
the Chiangmai Administrative Court.
She has been paralysed from the waist down when a broken sling sent a 300kg
mould it was lifting crashing down while working at the Shangrila Hotel
construction site in Chiangmai on 4 December 2005.
May Day has been observed in Thailand
since 1946.
