Shans to Commemorate 10th anniversary of a famous singer death
Shans, in Wiang Haeng district, are preparing to hold a ceremony in memory of Sai Moo, a well-know Shan singer and composer, whose passing away will be 10 years on December 26, in Piang Luang village, Wiang Haeng district, Chiang Mai province, northern Thailand from 30 December 2005 1 January 2006.
Sai Moo also known “Maw Sawn Hwezoy”(Hwezoy Teacher), one of the founding member of the Shan musical band ‘Jerng Liaw’(Freedom Way), which is widely known among Shan communities, was said to have composed more than 500 songs and lyrics. Dozens of his songs are political and have touched the heart of Shan people who have been suppressed by Burmese junta for several decades.

He also devoted most of his time for children in communities by teaching at Shan Middle School as the headmaster at Pang Kamkaw village, opposite Piang Luagn village. He passed away of heart attack in 1995 at the age of 35.
During the occasion, there will be not only a live concert by Freedom Way itself but also contests on poetry writing, drawing and presentation on Sai Moo’ biography.
