Ongoing armed conflicts, a flaw in Constitution: Shan rights group

A rights report on 22 April by the Shan Human Rights Foundation (SHRF) claims that the ongoing clashes between ethnic armed groups and Burma army are due to a flaw in the 2008 constitution that grants an authoritative power to the armed forces over the presidency, in which the former may abuse its power by passing the presidential authority.

It is reported that Burma army shelled 2 villages in Tangyan Township causing 2 injuries and 2 houses burned down.

On 15 April afternoon at around 1.30 pm, Burma army fired 5 mortar shells into 2 villages in Loi Zay tract. The reported 2 injured villagers were: Ar Lu, male, 17, an ethnic Chinese and a 14-month old Ar Way Chen, also an ethnic Chinese boy.

It is reported that the Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD) and a Shan youth association have joined hands collecting funds and other utilities to support the refugees, who have fled and taken shelters in the temples in Tangyan, Shan State, due to the recent clashes between Shan rebels and Burma army, according to the local news sources from northern Shan State.
